Apples and Orbifolds #68 Freedom to Create!

Commentary from the most important and leading critics of the science of Cartoonology:

Creativity really requires a careful balance of environment, inspiration, and, unfortunately for Simon there, commitment.

I'm inclined to agree, but I'm not sure, Mina, that I agree with your implied assessment of the main factors here - I think it is environment.

What do mean? The Television? The fact that there is a TV in Simon's environment?

That's right, thats right, I think most music critics would agree that there haven't been any great symphonies since television started dominating entertainment.

What? That is an insult to modern composers!

And especially when Oprah got on the airwaves, there was a definite drop in the worlds creative output during her peak.

Oh my gosh! Is that right? Has there been no great symphonies since Beethoven? I just googled - I came with something written in 1982 - Witold Lutoslawsi Symph #3, I'm listening to it now, but I don't really get it. I think I need a big Beethoven like melody.
